On 19 June, Sweden’s King and Queen will celebrate their golden wedding anniversary. At Childhood, we began celebrating our founder’s 50 years as Queen of Sweden back in March. We are deeply grateful for all the generous gifts that have been made in her honour so far. Read the summer greeting from Paula Guillet de Monthoux and Kenneth Bengtsson below.
Dear Childhood Friend,
Summer is here and as we write this, Stockholm is preparing for the celebration of H.M. The King and H.M. The Queen’s 50th wedding anniversary.
At Childhood we started the celebration of our founder’s 50 years as Queen of Sweden already in March. What she has done for children’s safety over the years is unique and truly invaluable. We are so grateful to everyone who joined the celebration of our “Dancing Queen” and all the generous donations in her tribute.
The same spirit of generosity is the foundation of our work. We are happy to share that we — with the support of our partners — just decided on ten new projects in Moldova, South Africa, Sweden and globally. Seven of them are with new partners, a result of our intensified and targeted scouting to find the most promising ideas to fill the gaps we see in child protection systems.
With these new initiatives we intensify our work on perpetration prevention to stop sexual abuse before it even happens. We also increase support for boys at risk, and strengthen the safety net for other neglected groups of children who are too often left out of existing systems. Our efforts within AI and tech will also deepen through new AI tools, law enforcement training, and new ways to understand children’s exposure to harm on social media.
Whatever we invest in, the common thread is always the same — people who genuinely care and want to create lasting change for children. People who show up for children even when the work is hard, the resources are thin, and the progress is slow. Passionate pioneers, grassroots organizations, dedicated professionals and donors who contribute time, expertise, resources and courage. That includes everyone at Childhood, everyone in our global network — and you.
Thanks to all of you.
With wishes for a lovely summer!
Warm regards,
Paula Guillet de Monthoux
