Childhood is built on strong partnerships and a shared commitment to every child’s right to a safe upbringing free from sexual abuse. Volvo Car Sweden has been a partner for more than 20 years. Below, CEO Jessica Span shares how our collaboration strengthens the company and why Childhood is the perfect partner for anyone who puts people at the center.
Why is Volvo Car Sweden a partner of Childhood?
Our partnership with Childhood is rooted in our shared vision of a world where all children can grow up safe and secure. Already 20 years ago, we recognized that Childhood’s work to protect children strongly aligned with our own focus on child safety in traffic. By partnering with Childhood, we can work together to build a more sustainable and safer future for generations to come.
How is the partnership reflected within the company?
Childhood is a central part of our sustainability and safety efforts. Since each Volvo sold generates a contribution to Childhood, we engage both our dealers and our employees in this shared mission. I believe that stability and long-term commitment are key foundations for a strong partnership.
How does Volvo Car Sweden support Childhood’s work?
In addition to our financial support, we also contribute with expertise and networks. One example is our role in the AI project Stella Polaris. This initiative clearly shows how we can use new technology together to identify risks and act proactively to protect children from online abuse.
You also serve on Childhood’s board. What is that like?
It has given me valuable insight into how Childhood operates. I’m impressed by their professional and structured approach, how clearly they define their goals, and how effectively they allocate resources to make sure the support reaches where it’s needed – directly to the children. It’s inspiring to see how their work makes a real difference for children in need, and I’m incredibly proud to be part of it.
Why should companies become partners with Childhood?
When companies consider how they can give back to society, it’s important to find a cause that aligns with both their business goals and values. Partnering with Childhood is not just an opportunity to support an important cause – as a partner, you also become part of a global movement working to protect children. Honestly, I find it hard to understand why more companies aren’t knocking on Childhood’s door.
How do you describe Childhood to others?
Childhood has a unique ability to combine a warm heart with a strategic mindset. The tireless dedication of their team, combined with their professional approach, makes them a leading actor in the field of child rights and an invaluable partner for companies that want to invest in children’s safety.
Anything you’d like to add?
Once you start seeing the world through a child’s perspective, it hits you straight in the heart. There’s nothing else you want but to help. I hope the partnership between Volvo Car Sweden and Childhood can inspire other companies to contribute to a safer, better future for children.
This year, you’re also part of the Childhood Award jury. What’s that like, and what are your thoughts on the award?
I think the Childhood Award is a great way to highlight children’s rights and well-being. It’s so important to recognize and encourage those individuals who work every day to create a safer childhood for our children. By rewarding and acknowledging these people, the Childhood Award helps strengthen their efforts and inspire others. I hope the award continues to grow and gain even more impact in the future.
Together with Stena Fastigheter, you hosted a networking lunch in Gothenburg in October. Can you tell us about that?
With the lunch, we wanted to create an opportunity to showcase Childhood’s work and impact to a wider audience. Of course, we also hope to inspire more partners to join so we can multiply the effect of our efforts.
