In Brazil there is a similar model to Barnahus but – more importantly – The Protected Listening Law (2017) that ensures that children that have been sexually abused and exploited are interviewed in a child-friendly way. As with the Barnahus model, one of the main objectives of the Protected Listening Law is to prevent revictimization of children that have been sexually abused.
The law was the result of our long-standing fight for children´s rights and our collaboration with other civil society organizations as well as Brazilian State institutions. When the law was implemented, it was the greatest achievement in responding to situations of violence against children and adolescents after the creation of the Child and Adolescent Statute (ECA) in 1990.
