Children who have been sexually abused have the right to child-friendly support and treatment. They have the right to feel safe, to be listened to, and should only have to tell share their story once in a trauma-sensitive setting. This is the commitment of Barnahus – a model we have been spreading over the last 20 years in Sweden, Germany, Moldova, Poland, and Ukraine. At the core of this model is a child-friendly, interdisciplinary approach aimed at preventing re-traumatization in children who have been sexually abused. It prioritizes placing the child and its needs at the center of attention.
In Germany, where the model operates under the name Childhood-Haus a 10th was established in 2023 and we were honored for our long-term efforts in spreading the model. Our goal is to reach children in all states of Germany. The nationwide implementation of the model aims to ensure innovative and multidisciplinary quality assurance in child protection, paving the way for a more sustainable future.
